Wailea
Ekahi
(Article
exclusive to Maui.US) - We've all been there before:
just arrived home from a trip to Maui and the depression
of leaving the Islands hits especially hard.
There really
is no way of avoiding this clinically-proven condition.
However,
there is most definitely a cure. Go back.
Start planning
the next trip and when you do, I have just the place
for you to stay: The Wailea Ekahi Villas in beautiful
Wailea.
Snuggled
in between 5-star resorts and sharing beach access to
one of the most pristine beaches on the entire Island,
the Ekahi Villas are a vacationer's paradise.
The grounds
of the complex stretch 33 acres and front right up to
Keawakapu beach.
You will
have views of the neighboring Islands of Kahoolawe,
Lanai, and Molokini.
My wife and
I fell in love with the Ekahi Villas right away.
What's not to love about these
luxurious condos.
From the location to the lush
tropical grounds and beautiful ocean vistas, the Ekahi
Villas were an absolute delight.
The virtues of the resort town
of Wailea are plentiful.
The least of which being its
unrivaled climate.
Endless sunshine and warm ocean
water make this place the perfect tropical destination.
We were extremely pleased with
the villas right from the first second we stepped foot
inside.
Our condo was superbly decorated
and the location right up from the beach was ideal.
We loved spending nights on
our patio gazing out at the Pacific Ocean and those
unbelievable sunsets.
A fun adventure that turned
out to be one of our favorite expeditions on Maui was
hiking the lava rock in the neighboring town of Makena.
Literally the end of the road,
Makena is located less than 10 minutes drive to the
south of Wailea.
The remnants of lava eruptions
from many years back have left the area covered in black
molten rock.
The contrast of color and shape
make for a truly unique visual experience.
The hike in one word is breathtaking.
Mostly flat and easily traversed,
I would recommend the hike for most ages.
Depending on the tide and surf
conditions there are some sections on the hike that
are more difficult to maneuver.
I remember on the day we made
this trek that the waves were pretty big.
It was quite the sight to watch
the crashing waves slam against the black lava rock.
Trade winds were gusting and
the spray coming off the curl of the wave was shooting
off into the air.
We have some really great photos
from this hike of the waves and the lava rock.
Be careful not to get too close
to the edges of the rock as waves and gusty winds can
make it dangerous.
Also located in Makena is one
of the more isolated beaches we found on Maui's South
shore.
Makena Beach (also known as
Big Beach) is located down the road from Wailea and
rests away from the big resorts.
Finding the beach was a bit
of a challenge as it is a little ways down the road
with minimal signage but once you get there you will
not be disappointed.
