"Great Place To Stay On A Budget" :: We stayed at the Sugar Beach for 11 nights and I must say we were pleasantly surprised. We had an updated condo right on the ocean. Sugar Beach is not your really fancy resort, but it is clean, well maintained and a great place to go if you are on a budget with kids. We loved meeting people from all over the country while we cooked at the barbecue which over looked the ocean. There is an activity planner right on the property and they were very helpful in making our trip one we will always remember. We will definitely go back to Sugar Beach.

"Sugar Beach Thoughts" :: I've stayed at Sugar Beach three times. Each of those stays was for two weeks or more. We also had other members of our family in other units; eg parents, brother and his wife and kids. I've been to Maui over 20 times. Used to stay on the Westside but it is so expensive and crowded as to be insane. The location of this resort is good. It's an easy drive from the airport. If you want to go to the Westside, though, it can be a haul if there is traffic (always!). The two bedroom unit we had was large and clean; we rebooked it each year. The pool was sometimes a bit cool and lots of chemicals but that was okay with my little one! Beach is nice but beware. This area gets tons of wind in the afternoons. Also, watch where you go in the water as there are some rocks. Nice BBQ area, and grass. Good markets and shopping within a not too bad drive. Ok, so it's not on Kaanapali beach with the perfect sand and swimming. But you can drive anywhere if you take the time to search out the good places. Lots of them available so do your homework. For the price, it's a good deal and a resort we do plan on returning to.

"Great Place For Families" :: we've had two great vacations at Sugar Beach, and are planing our third for this Fall. The resort id perfect for families. Our teenagers love it there. This time, we are taking our oldest daughter, son-in-law and 15 month old grandson. We know that the pool and grounds will be safe, and not too busy in October. The units are very well-equipped. The kitchens are nicer than home! I looked forward to the nightly cooking lessons at the barbecue area. I show all the guys with their big slabs of red meat how to grill vegetables! The staff at the activity desk are a big help when it comes to planning outings like a snorkeling trip or a luau. They seem to be able to find the best deals in town... On our last trip, my husband got crushed by a huge wave at Makena, and ended up needing to go to the hospital. The Sugar Beach security guard was just getting off duty, and lived near the hospital. He offered to let us follow him there. He directed us right to the hospital parking lot! I'm counting the days until we go back!
