The
Sheraton Maui - (exclusive to Maui.US by
Melissa D. Kratzke) As soon as you walk into the Sheraton
Maui Resort, a sense of magic and tranquility takes
over your senses.
The lobby
has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with large picturesque
windows that overlook the ocean and the swaying palm
trees.
The hotel
staff is friendly and always greets you with a smile
and a big "aloha!"
The rooms
are spacious and many have a great view of the ocean.
My stay at the resort was in a deluxe ocean view room
and it was definitely worth the money.
Imagine waking
up every morning with a sweet Hawaiian breeze flowing
in from your lanai.
The most
unique part of the Sheraton is Pelota, the resort's
Ambassador of Aloha. Pelota is a solid, muscular man
who was amazing with the guests. He performed a fire
dance every other night that was truly an exciting blend
of fiery colors of oranges, yellows and reds.
He was always
on site answering questions about Hawaii and Hawaiian
culture. He even held classes, like how to open a coconut
properly so the milk doesn't spill out.
He was an
enjoyable man and truly made the experience at the resort
unique.
If you want
to relax and enjoy the warmth of the sun, the pool is
vast and refreshing.
Black Rock,
Maui's premier snorkeling location, is also within walking
distance from the resort. If you've never snorkeled,
don't worry. The resort offers snorkeling lessons to
their guests.
Evenings
are truly magical at the resort and a must-see for anyone
staying there. Every night there is the annual Hawaiian
custom of Lele Kawa, which is cliff diving.
It tells
the story of a young cliff diver who relives the steps
of his ancestors by crossing the Ka'anapali Beach to
Pu'u Keka'a, then he plunges into the warm waters below.
It is a fascinating glimpse into Hawaiian history.
The
nightly ceremony is a staple at the Sheraton Maui Resort
and it dates back to the resort's opening in 1963.
The Sheraton
Maui Resort has outstanding restaurants that appeal
to even the pickiest palette.
The Keka'a
Terrace boasts spectacular views of the coastline and
is an open-air restaurant that provides mouthwatering
breakfasts and scrumptious lunches. The macadamia nut
pancakes are a must-try, with fresh pineapple filling.
There is
also a traditional luau that the resort hosts that is
a definite event any visitor to Hawaii needs to experience.
It is located
directly on Ka'anapali Beach and features the food,
dance and music of the Hawaiian Islands. Your taste
buds and eyes will be thanking you as you feast into
the starry evening.
The resort
also has every amenity you can think of to make your
Hawaiian holiday truly memorable.
