It is basic and styled in a turn of the century plantation boarding house.

Lodgings such as these have established a toehold anywhere surfers flock to the shore seeking the company of other surfers, quick beach access, low price and basic amenities.

It is not surprising that the lodge does not offer food service, TV, or hotel-style amenities other than free wireless access available from the garden/deck area.

The grounds sport hammocks on the deck and in the garden areas.

After sunset, they turn the little lights on that have been strung along the bamboo fence and Tiki Bar roof and there is a lovely waterfall fountain switched on right next to it.

The owners Maria and Greg will make you feel right at home and will be extremely helpful in making your trip incredible.

They will help you with whatever you need.

These clean, cozy and remodeled rooms give you just what you need ... a perfect bed, a refrigerator and a shower.

You will love this unique bathroom shower as it has a rock bottom shower stall. There is a "curtain" in place of a bathroom door (see pics) if privacy is of a concern, be aware.

The ocean tradewinds breeze in through your open window and make it soothing and sweet. You won't notice very much street noise if any at all.

Rooms are larger than many comparable hotel rooms, and can be had for half the price.

Be aware of the Nalu Kai's limited parking spaces.

The Nalu Kai Lodge is a good value for your money and perfect for anyone looking for a unique experience that is much more enjoyable and personal than staying at a large resort.

"The Real Thing" :: We just stayed at Nalu Kai. It’s not the most fancy place around, but it is the most genuine flavor of the north shore. If you want to meet real people, who aren’t wearing a uniform, but can give you the good suggestions, places to see, and things to do, Nalu Kai works. We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms. I suggest one of those because the views and the breezes are nicest. We would wake up, go across the street for a coffee and breakfast, and sit out on the deck. We’d make our own orange juice in the mornings and even picked the oranges off one of the trees outside. The courtyard is small, but has a nice lava-looking waterfall, a tiki area, and a hammock in the shade. The staff was having a barbecue one night and invited us to join them. We met people like us who were living and working on Maui. From that point on we didn’t feel like “the others”, but rather guests at the Nalu Kai guesthouse. We tried haupia – an ono (delicious), homemade, coconut cake – and learned some things about Maui from a local’s perspective. Thank you to the staff at Nalu Kai. We’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s not looking for the resort-type experience, anyone who prefers European chalets to Disney Land, or anyone who wants to experience some relaxation and real people. We were there in the fall and you could hear the waves at night. Apparently they’re larger in the winter. ‘Very peaceful. Unfortunately, you could also hear the dumpster being emptied into a garbage truck on a Monday morning, but the manager had warned us about that one ahead of time. And, that was really the only disturbance. Overall, I’d recommend Nalu Kai to a friend.

"What A Charming Surprise" :: The Nalu Ki Lodge was a wonderful surprise! Walking in the gates you will find yourself in a manicured landscape garden, the waterfall was a nice feature to look at and listen to. We really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere at the Tiki Bar and how all rooms came out to the courtyard. Rooms are comfortable and very clean, loved the shower, lots of water! We aIso loved our welcome plumeria flowers on our bed,. The management was there to help us with our needs always. You can't go wrong staying at the Nalu Ki Lodge if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg. We had a blast in Maui! Thanks Maria for such great service! You are a doll!

"Hidden Gem" :: As a single, female traveler, I felt very safe and secure in my cozy and clean room! The location is ideal! Within walking distance to everything in town, and only a 2 minute drive to Ho'okipa for the best surfing/windsurfing. Hands down, I would recommend Nalu Kai lodge to anyone looking for a unique experience that is much more enjoyable and personal than staying at a large resort.
