Eldorado :: Lottie T
(Article exclusive to Maui.US) - One of the
mainstays in the vast collection of condos in the Kaanapali
Resort, the Maui El Dorado offers a wonderful location
and value for those seeking a casual, relaxed vacation
experience. Originally opened as a condominium in 1969
as a part of the aggressive development of the Kaanapali
coastline, the units were quickly snapped up by Canadians
chasing their tropical dreams and Californians in the
know waiting for the Maui real estate market to explode.
Today, the
Maui Eldorado is the perfect location for those looking
for spacious, well appointed accommodations for large
families or for couples on extended holiday. With nothing
between the resort and the beach besides the Kaanapali
Golf Course fairways. the slope side location offers
easy access to the resorts and excitement fronting the
large resorts, or the quieter more peaceful stretch
of beach nearer the golf course, north of Black Rock.
The resort is about an hour
drive from the main Kahului International Airport and
10 minutes from the smaller regional Kapalua Airport.
The resort location is within walking distance to the
restaurants, bars and shopping at the Kaanapali Resort.
The Lahaina Express Shuttle departs regularly from the
Whaler's Village Shopping Center with easy access to
the historic whaling town of Lahaina for a nominal fare.
This resort requires a minimum
of a two night stay, the resort has no elevators and
upper floor units are only accessible via stairway.
There are also smoking restrictions since this property
complies with Hawaii's smoke-free laws.
There are a host of amenities
at the Maui Eldorado. There are three pools none of
which are huge spectacular or memorable, but all three
are clean, sparkling, inviting, generously sized with
a casual family friendly atmosphere. There are also
four barbecue grills located near the pool which is
the perfect setting for an outdoor family gathering,
and activities desk readily available to book tours,
arrange activities and confirm restaurant reservations.
However, what makes this condo-resort
a stand out is the private cabana on Kaanapali Beach.
For use of condo residents and guests, this facility
offers a kitchen, lounge chairs and more. Located on
the beach, it is accessible via golf cart shuttle and
is in the winter between 9am-5pm and 9:30am-5:30 pm
in the summer.
Still technically a condominium
with its own homeowner's association, just under 100
of the 204 units in this two story complex are available
as vacation accommodations. There are three types of
units and two choices of views at the Maui Eldorado.
Garden view units are less expensive and offer views
of the resort gardens and adjacent buildings. The more
expensive partial ocean view units offer views of the
golf course, the beachfront resorts and the ocean beyond.
All units have air-conditioning,
washer and dryer, a full kitchen complete with dishwasher,
stovetop/oven, microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker,
cookware, tableware and iron and ironing board. Also
included in each unit is daily maid service, complimentary
wired high-speed internet access, hair dryer, cable
TV and DVD player and balconies.
The smallest units are between
660-880 square feet and are perfect for couples. Studios
come with either one king bed and one queen sofa bed
or one queen bed and one queen sofa bed.
One bedroom units allow a maximum
of four guests and are spacious with 1200 square feet
of living space. The units come with one king bed and
one queen sofa bed or two queen beds and one queen sofa
bed.
But the most impressive are
the two bedroom units. These units are quite popular
and limited so booking early is highly recommended.
These units are the largest at the Eldorado and feature
1700 square feet and allow a maximum of six guests.
The Maui Eldorado is one of
the better condo-resort values in West Maui. It's a
favorite for many who return year after year.
