The
Kamaole Sands Condos Thinking of planning
a trip over to Maui? Looking to stay somewhere affordable
that still offers an excellent location and amenities?
Well, I have just the place for you.
The Kamaole
Sands condominium resort is the ideal place for the
budget traveler.
Located on
the sunny shores of south Maui, the Kamaole Sands was
the vacation destination for my wife and I last summer.
The Kamaole
Sands was our home for over a week and the memories
from that trip are still as fresh in my mind as if it
were yesterday. The grounds of the Kamaole Sands complex
included tennis courts, complimentary parking, swimming
pool, spas, barbecues, and an activity center.
The outdoor
grills were great for cooking dinners in the fresh air
while enjoying the views of Kamaole Beach.
Depending on how full the condominium
is you may want to plan ahead as the grills do get booked
up.
The Beach located just across
the street from the resort is the Kamaole Beach III
(the other two sections run farther north towards downtown
Kihei).
This beach park is great for
swimming and snorkeling.
A large grassy area in front
of the beach offers an alternative to laying out if
being in the sand is not your cup of tea.
The small beachside town of
Kihei offers lots of fun activities ranging from shopping,
dining, surfing, and socializing. We spent many a morning
at the Kihei Café reading the newspaper over a cup of
fresh Kona coffee and a cinnamon bun.
However, a word of caution:
watch out for the surprisingly stealth wild roosters
that roam the entire Island of Maui. There was one in
particular that managed to sneak up on my wife while
relaxing at the Café. Let's just say he gave her quite
a startle. It made for great laughs the rest of the
trip.
We brought our surf boards over
on this trip to Maui and the condos at the Kamaole Sands
were easy to manage with our longboards. We were staying
in one of the first floor units so we could just walk
the boards right in from the front.
There are some small surfing
options (ideal for beginners) in Kihei at Shark's Cove
and the neighboring break just north of there. Lots
of lessons take place here so it will be crowded no
matter what.
We actually drove over to west
Maui for the majority of our surfing sessions. Surfing
and Hawaii go hand in hand. It is definitely something
embedded in the Hawaiian culture. Get out in the water
and give it a shot.
The favorite thing we did while
staying at the Kamaole Sands was a trip up to the summit
of Mt. Haleakala to watch the sunrise. We got up at
four in the morning and drove the two hour trek up to
the top of the dormant volcano.
Word of caution: bring some
warm clothes. I know you are in Hawaii and believe me
I was not really thinking I would need a warm jacket
when packing for the trip but you are definitely going
to want one if you head up to the summit. The elevation
at the top of the mountain is approximately 10,000 feet
and it is really cold up there before the sun comes
up. Bring some blankets from the condo if you don't
have a jacket.
Once you get passed the idea
of being cold in Hawaii, then you can enjoy the absolutely
stunning visuals from the top of this glorious Mountain.
Often described as life-altering, these views make you
wonder where the sky ends and heaven begins.
Haleakala National Park is worth
a visit whether you come for sunrise or not. This U.S.
National Park contains some incredible landscapes and
is ideal for backcountry hiking.
Overall, the Kamaole Sands in
Kihei is a great spot for couples and families alike
to spend some quality time in paradise. We loved our
time there and would go back in a heartbeat.
