Kaanapali
Villas :: (By Lottie
T, Article exclusive to Maui.US) - Built in 1966 and
opened originally as the Maui Hilton, it was one of
the first hotels in Kaanapali Resort. Later conversion
to condominiums required that the resort reduce the
number of rooms to about half of what was originally
built. Today, it is one of the more spacious and well
appointed condo-resorts in the area.
The drive
from the main Kahului airport takes a solid hour. Once
out of the airport and past the island's only Costco,
the highway slices through central Maui past sugar cane
fields, golf courses and roadside shopping malls. But
once through the tunnel and over the Pali the road takes
a coastal track and continues past beach parks, surfing
and snorkeling spots, scenic overlooks perfect for those
photo opportunities, soak up the panorama of the South
Maui shoreline or to view migrating Humpback whales
during the winter months.
Traffic on the two lane highway
moves quickly and although one should always keep to
the minimum highway speeds, islanders are quite patient
and courteous even when rental cars make erratic turns
or stops. One should be aware that Honoapiilani Highway
is for the most part has no street lights. So, if you
are one who is challenged by unfamiliar unlighted roads,
it is certainly advisable to arrive on Maui well before
sunset.
Located on the northern end
of the Kaanapali Resort, the Aston Kaanapali Villas
is located on the northern edge of the resort. Separated
from the mega hotels with names like Sheraton, Marriott
and Hyatt this resort sits on a beautiful stretch of
Kaanapali Beach across from the new Westin Oceanfront
Villas Resort.
This non-smoking 11-acre beachfront
resort offers numerous amenities, comfortable accommodations
that appeal to a wide range of visitors from honeymooners
to families. The resort is certainly family friendly.
From the year round Camp Kaanapali to the kiddies' pool
to the free coloring book and crayons at check-in, it
is certainly the place for families with small children
in tow. There are many amenities for adults as well.
The daily resort fee includes unlimited local phone
calls, Wi-Fi, fitness center access, and special discounted
rates at the on-site day spa. Nearby there is championship
golf, tennis and water sports galore.
