The
Kaanapali Alii - (Exclusive to Maui.US) Kaanapali
Alii I was lucky enough to stay at the beautiful Kaanapali
Alii on my honeymoon after it had been recommended to
me by a friend who also stayed there for her honeymoon.
I have to
confess that I had some trepidation about spending my
honeymoon at a "word of mouth" destination, but I can
happily report that it was an experience that I would
not have traded for the world.
We had a
two-bedroom condominium with a garden view since the
hotel is actually built in a horse-shoe shape around
the lush and fragrant gardens (opposed to being built
flush against the beach), so garden view and mountain
view rooms were more abundant.
It was very well appointed and
spotless (and I have very high standards).
Having a garden view room, we
were greeted every morning to the melodic singing of
tropical birds as they frolicked in the colorful foliage
outside our windows -- and the soft backdrop of the
ocean's woosh was always present, as well.
It was close to sensory overload
in its beautiful sound.
If you think you must have an
ocean view, you might want to reconsider since the auditory
delights provided by the local winged natives was pure
delight.
Since the Alii are condominiums,
the kitchen in the unit was super convenient.
Now remember, it was my honeymoon,
so I didn't do a lot of cooking.
What we did do, however, was
make a run to the nearby grocery store to stock up on
fresh, juicy local fruits and a bottle of rum.
The blender that was supplied
in the kitchen served its purpose quite nicely as we
blended the most delicious tropical concoctions to take
down to the beach on a daily basis.
We were very happy honeymooners,
and the periodic ventures back to the room - to make
drinks….what were you thinking? - were exciting since
each batch of fruity deliciousness turned out better
than the one before it.
We were also grateful for the
full kitchen when it came to breakfast. Again, fresh
fruits and provisions from the grocery store were stored
in the convenience of a refrigerator, and all made for
restful mornings without feeling a need to get up and
dash out just to get something to eat before hitting
the beach. It's vacation, remember?
The pool was relaxing, more
than ample in size, and very conveniently located between
the rooms and the beach.
The most difficult decision
during our stay was deciding between time spent floating
in the coolness of the pool water or time spent splashing
in the waves of the ocean that were only footsteps away.
And that brings me to the beach.
Oh my. I have seen a lot of beaches, having lived in
or visited Australia, Fiji, Florida, California, Mexico,
Jamaica, Honduras, and the Bahamas; and I can state
unequivocally that the beach at Kaanapali is by far
the finest I have enjoyed.
Having been back to Maui twice
since the honeymoon and having seen different beaches
on the island, there is still nothing that compares
to this one.
