Random Reviews on the Island Sands powered by Trip Advisor...
"What A Great View
Of The Whale Show" :: Just got back from a
great 9 night stay at the Island Sands. This unit is
owned by a Maui Realtor, and he has it well furnished
(Bali style) and keeps it very clean. The unit was literally
less than 20 steps from the ocean. The views of the
Ma'alaea bay from the lanai were excellent, and we watched
the "whale show" almost every morning. We saw many whales
including breaches (moms and babies) just a few hundred
yards from our porch each day. Ma'alaea is a great central
location for exploring the island, and a lot of the
snorkeling and whale watching trips leave from the Ma'alaea
harbor that is just a short walk away. The condo (actually
all of Ma'alaea) does have a lot of older people living
in it so it is quiet. The area is very safe, parking
is good, BBQs are nice, and the pool is okay but a little
small. The bay is good for kayaking and stand up paddling.
We were able to launch from a small sandy spot just
in front of the condo. There is also a very nice beach
(sugar beach) less than 5 min walk away. The snorkeling
right in front of the condo is okay - we saw turtles
there everyday. In the summer there is a good surf break
right next to the condo on a nice south swell. The owner
of this unit provided boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrella
and a cooler that was a nice touch. As for the wind,
we didn't find this place any windier than the rest
of the island. Generally the morning was pretty calm
then the trade winds would pick up by noon. We had only
planned to stay 6 nights in the condo, but since we
liked it so much we stayed another 3 nights! This unit
was definitely one the nicest and cleanest in the complex
and I highly recommend it. Mahalo!
"Best B&B On Maui"
:: My husband and I went to Maui on our honeymoon in
March 2004. We stayed at the Four Seasons in Wailea
which was beautiful, but very pricey. After our first
visit into Lahaina, we spotted the Plantation Inn which
was absolutely beautiful and decided to call them for
their rates. We booked a suite for $200 a night, which
was $600 less a night when we stayed at the Four Seasons.
It was the most beautiful little B&B I had ever stayed
in. Our room was beautiful, the staff was super friendly
and helpful, the poolside breakfast is great (and included)
and the grounds were spectacular. I cannot say enough
great things about this place, you must stay here when
visiting Lahaina. We are definitely coming back here
on our anniversary. Also Gerard's restaurant on the
property is also a excellent French Restaurant. A little
pricey, but worth every bite.
"Great Homey Place"
:: Maui Island Sands was a great 'homey' place to stay.
We stayed in Unit #207 and it had a washer/dryer, fully
furnished, dishwasher, and full kitchen and was facing
the ocean. A great view of morning sunrise over Haleakala,
not to mention the sunsets! I also liked that we were
very centrally located, close to Maalaea Harbor (great
snorkeling and restaurants, boating), and you could
go in any direction to Kehei or Lahaina without too
much of a drive. The gal at the front desk (concierge)
was so great--planned all of our activities and always
asked us if there was anything else she could do for
us, took great care of us! I also liked the fact that
the street Island Sands is on dead-ends into a state
park! I would definitely stay there again!
