Hotel
Wailea - (exclusive to Maui.US by Lottie
Tagupa) Located in the Wailea Resort up hill from the
haughty high end beachfront mega-resorts, the Hotel
Wailea offers privacy and comfort away from the crowds
of the larger resort hotels.
Located about
35 minutes from the Kahului International Airport the
Hotel Wailea is a serene and out-of-the-way enclave
along at the end of the road set amidst upscale homes
in Wailea.
It's located
just five minutes from the bawdy bars and restaurants
of Kihei and even closer to high end shopping, entertainment
and restaurants.
The area
boasts no less than four courses two at the Makena Resort
and another two at Wailea.
Also nearby
are many shops at the Shops at Wailea including a general
store with souvenirs, drinks snacks along with beer
wine and liquors.
As for shopping
there are several luxury boutiques including BCBG, White
House/Black Market and Louis Vuitton.
The non-smoking
hotel has been managed and marketed to Japanese tourists
for years.
The hotel
has been relatively unknown to westerners for just this
reason, but the recent changes to this wonderful Wailea
sleeper by Aqua Hotels has brought about a new trendy
entrant onto the Wailea resort scene.
The atmosphere
has shifted from the mainstream tourist hotel to upscale,
trendy and comfortable offering the young and trendy
options for spacious suite accommodations and reasonable
prices.
The resort
is far from huge, under 100 guest suites, but it is
still large enough to give you a sense of comfort and
luxury.
The hotel
is set on a hillside with acres of lushly landscaped
gardens complete with tropical flowers, walkways and
more.
The main
lobby is done in dark colors with an upscale Polynesian
vibe that have views of the ocean that is attention
grabbing and ever-changing.
Guest suites
are done in a palette of warm neutrals with bright tropical
accents.
Furnishings
are tropical in style, most carried over from the previous
owners, but still have a functional and tropical appeal.
Guest suites
arranged in clusters on the hillside down slope from
the main lobby.
All are wonderfully spacious
and peaceful. All have one bedroom floor plans with
air-conditioning, kitchenette, private lanais and deep
soaking tubs.
Suites come in a choice of one
king or two queen beds and partial ocean or ocean views.
Partial ocean views combine
garden and ocean views while ocean view suites offer
unobstructed views of Molokini, Kahoolawe and the Pacific
Ocean glorious enough to make you feel like you own
the world.
All suites have daily housekeeping,
irons and ironing boards, robes, LCD TV, high speed
internet, iPod docking clock-radio, coffeemaker and
even an umbrella to shade you from the hot tropical
sun or the passing trade showers.
The resort has a small but stylish
pool.
It's located just below the
main lobby on a small deck that it shares with a small
kids sand-bottom pool, waterfall and spa.
The pool area is very trendy
with an abundance of cabanas and lounge chairs.
Along with the resort's new
fitness center, the resort spa is certainly an added
bonus for the over-worked and road-weary.
Not as splashy or lavish as
those down the hill, but it certainly offers reasonable
prices for those looking for simple service like massages
and facials.
