Hale Kai O Kihei locationThe Hale Kai O Kihei - If you want one of the newest condos in Maui, and probably all of Hawaii, try the Hale Kai O Kihei.

They just wrapped up completion of a major renovation (ended October of 2009), and everything is shiney, new and ship shape.

This is one instance where you can ignore the reviews as anything older than October is no longer relevant, and anything after that was by people renting directly from the owners to same some change.

I would not recommend renting anything from anybody without some kind of intermediary with authority.

But that's just me, there are plenty of people who love renting sight unseen from strangers halfway across the planet.

Enjoy this beautiful gem!

The Hale Kai O Kihei is in Kihei (obviously), but is only .1 mile from the diving school, and only .7 miles from Octopus Reef. I sense here a possible connection...

The condos are located near Wailea (think the best golf you could ever possibly imagine)..

Hale Kai O Kihei

The Hale Kai O Kihei is low rise, only a 3 stories. There have been laws in Hawaii limiting the height of buildings to the height of a coconut tree.

ALL units are ocean view.

The ocean is swimable, but better beaches are located just up the road. Swimming and scuba are two different animals entirely if you are a diver!

NO elevators (again, three stories tall) so if you have mobility issues, try floors one or two. Offers free internet access, cable, ac, laundry (fee), and pool.

There is a cleaning fee, which is one of the differences between renting a home and booking a hotel room. Maid service is also available for a fee.

"“Love Love Love HKOK!" :: We go to Maui once or twice a year and always stay at HKOK. We've been in many different units and agree with the previous poster----no two units are alike in decor or features. This time we stayed in Unit #313, rented through the HKOK Homeowners Rental Agency. We've had some units in which we never lacked for anything and then others (like this one) which was no more than sparsely stocked and in need of some updating. This didn't matter to us because the beauty of HKOK is that you are less than 50 yards (an estimate) from the ocean. Each lanai has a full ocean view, not a garden view, not a mountain view, not a street view....each lanai has a full ocean view. Did I also mention that you can see the ocean from almost every spot in the condo, except the bathroom? For everything it lacks, it has one huge plus---you are on the beach in Maui. Sure the beach isn't the greatest but it is just fine for walking or running. We like that HKOK is small, only 59 units and within walking distance of grocery stores, post office, restaurants, a Catholic Church and other shopping. We also like that it is maybe less than 10 miles from the airport. As for the air conditioning not making it to the bedroom...we have never been in a unit which did not have a fan or 2 for your use. Besides, it's generally cooler at night and a fan (plus the ceiling fan) did a terrific job at keeping things comfortable. HKOK may not be the fanciest or the ritziest, but it makes us feel right at home.

"“Perfect Spot For Lots Of R & R" :: Spent two weeks at the Hale Kai O Kihei and loved it. Great value for the money. Yes, it's an older complex but very well maintained. The view from Our third floor was fantastic! The daily shows from the whales were awesome! Great relaxing spot to venture out and see the island. Very quiet spot, not for the "partying" types....but truly wonderful. Beach was good, fantastic views, VERY well equipped condos. You need bring only your clothes! Nice small pool for cooling off on the truly hot days when you choose to just lay around by the pool or on the beach! I would return there in a heartbeat. We were VERY sad to leave! Aloha!

"“Great Condo Great Location" :: We stayed at the condo for one week. Great location and great condo. The only thing that you need to be aware of is that the air conditioning is not strong enough to get to the back bedroom. This makes the master bedroom very hot to sleep in. We suggest a fan in each unit to move the cool air back . Other than that, very enjoyable.
