My
Honeymoon at Grand Wailea in Maui (Article exclusive
to Maui.US) - 2004 was the very first time I visited
Maui.
I was on
a honeymoon trip with my husband, and from the moment
I observed from my airplane window the spectacular ocean
shoreline, ocean tides and a myriad of smaller islands,
I quickly fell in love with the beautiful island of
Maui.
When we landed
in Maui's airport, the airport looked a lot like your
average US airport, yet it had a definite Hawaiian appeal
because of the atmosphere of tranquility, mellow attitude
and relaxed mood.
We got into
a rental car and had an unforgettable night drive to
our hotel, enjoying the streets generously lit up with
Tiki torches.
Upon our arrival to Grand Wailea,
I was quite impressed with impeccable landscaping and
perfectly groomed grounds around the hotel property.
The lawns were indeed perfectly
manicured and lushly green with tropical trees and colorful
flowers to complete the picture!
We were greeted by attentive
staff that handled all our honeymoon arrangements in
a friendly and efficient manner.
As our honeymoon vacation happened
to be in an "off season" period, there were absolutely
no crowds, no issues with noise or any other disturbances
that are so commonly associated with vacationing in
Hawaii.
I loved Grand Wailea on so
many different levels, but what captivated me most was
the following: Wailea Beach. Grand
Wailea is located on one of Maui's nicest beaches: it's
on the sunny side of the island, and the weather is
almost always perfect, with water never being too rough.
On our first morning in Maui,
we took off to the beach and walked through the most
magnificent gardens I had ever seen in my life. From
that day on and till the end of our stay, my husband
and I loved to take early morning walks (or walks in
the evening) and enjoy this lovely beach taking either
direction along the shore.
In fact, once at the beach,
we could take a pathway that would lead to all the other
hotels and apartments along the water.
Hotel Room. We got a
room with a spectacular view, overlooking both the ocean
and the beautiful gardens; we could even see the curves
of Haleakala, a dormant volcano crater: the sunsets
from the balcony were quite breathtaking.
Our room was pretty spacious;
we had AMAZING shampoos, conditioners and body lotions
supplied directly from the Spa Grande, a world-renowned
resort spa at Grand Wailea.
Water Pools. One thing
that Grand Wailea is definitely famous for is its world-class
water pools system. The pool areas are just gorgeous!
There are plenty of pools and
activities to accommodate kids and adults alike.
In fact, the whole pool area
is spread out like an amusement water park: there are
waterfalls, slides, caves, hot tubs, rivers, and rapids.
I really enjoyed the series
of pools that were at different levels and were all
connected by a river.
As I went from one pool to the
next, I either floated slowly on the so-called "lazy
river", or I was carried at crazy speeds by what I can
only describe as whitewater rapids.
My husband enjoyed a Tarzan
rope swing immensely, jumping from that rope into a
pool an endless number of times.
If we ever wanted to enjoy more
quietness without the noise and the kids, we could swim
to a wonderful adult pool or reserve a private Cabana.
