At Papakea - (exclusive to Maui.US by Lottie
Tagupa) Located between the Kaanapali Resort and the
Kapalua Airport, this non-smoking resort offers a great
oceanfront setting and a location that is convenient
to shopping, nightlife, restaurants and more.
The Papakea
is quiet, casual and comfortable with homey condominium
units that are popular with families, couples or retirees
on extended vacation.
Quieter and
smaller than the high-end resorts, the Papakea is located
on 13 oceanfront landscaped acres that offer wonderful
views of the Pacific Ocean and the neighboring islands
of Molokai and Lanai.
From the
street, this budget resort looks more like an apartment
complex than a vacation condo but all the action and
amenities are found on the ocean side of this property.
Once inside,
the courtyard is lushly landscaped almost enveloping
the entire four story building. Décor is unique to each
unit but by and large the furnishings are plain, functional
and sometimes dated.
There is
easy access to the resort parking lot, but the lot is
unsecured and uncovered. Resort attracts lots of families
with lots of kids of all ages, so those wanting lots
of privacy and a more subdued atmosphere should take
this into consideration.
Papakea specializes
in oversized vacation condominiums that have either
garden or ocean views.
Each comes
with a private furnished lanai, air-conditioning, a
fully equipped kitchen and a washer and dryer. Condominiums
come in studio, one, two or three bedroom units. Studios
offer one queen or one Murphy bed and have an average
size of 454 square feet.
They can
accommodate up to two guests. All have spacious private
lanais.
One bedroom
units offer one king or queen plus a sofa bed in the
living area. Average 1br unit size is 620 square feet
and accommodates anywhere from one to four guests.
Two bedroom
units average 881 square feet and include a sofa bed
in the living area plus one king and one queen bed or
one king and two twin beds or two queens or one queen
and two twin beds. These units can accommodate anywhere
from one to six guests.
Three bedroom units are the
largest with an average size of 1217 square feet.
In addition to the sofa bed
in the living area, these units have a choice of one
king, one queen and two twins, or two queen beds and
two twin beds.
Although the Papakea is a small
resort, it is certainly big on amenities.
The oceanfront offers a wonderful
children's program which is filled with activities for
5-12 year olds.
Held from 8am-2pm Monday through
Fridays and Friday evenings from 5pm-930pm, Camp Kaanapali
occupies kids with hula lessons, scavenger hunts, fish
feeding, lei making, ukulele lessons, nature walks and
more.
The resort also has two swimming
pools, two jet spas, barbecue grills, picnic areas,
lighted tennis courts.
Guest parking is free for the
first vehicle along with high-speed wireless internet
access and yoga classes.
The nearby Kaanapali Resort
offers wonderful beaches, shopping and dining along
with nightlife ocean activities and more.
